Sergeant Dalen: What in the Hells was that?
Necromancer: Nothing you should fear.
Sergeant Dalen: We’ve seen the fires you’ve lit. Fear has no more hold on us! The catapults could break Azmodan’s lines, but we can’t raise them from their berths while demons swarm over the walls!
Necromancer: That is why I am here.

OBJECTIVES
- Catapults raised in Stonefort (0/3)
I would have raised these catapults at the first sign of invasion, but these soldiers did not have the chance. As long as they’re still standing, they can help us repel Azmondan’s forces. Every advantage is precious in this bleak battle.
Enter Stonefort.
Templar: It is grim out here, but we’ve seen worse.
Note: The Stonefort Waypoint is right there. If this is your first time, unlock it.
Talk to Captain Haile to start raising the first Catapult.
Captain Hale: Thank the heavens you’re here. We’re down to four lads until reinforcements arrive. Trouble is, the lift stopped. We can’t see what went wrong through all the muck down there. Oh, what now?
(The ground grate collapses. Demons pour out from it as they climb the inner walls)
OBJECTIVES UPDATE
Waiting for Reinforcements
- Defeat the demon ambush
Soldier: More of the brutes from below, Captain! What do we do?
Captain Haile: Private, if you need to be told which end of the sword goes where, you haven’t been paying attention! Fight to your last breath, lads!
Captain Haile: The Lift is moving again! Hold steady, lads! Reinforcements are on their way!
Note: Not truth. The lift is bringing in more demon troopers led by a soldier of Hell: Dragus.
Captain Haile: Demons! Get ready, men!
EVENT COMPLETE
Captain Haile: We would’ve fallen without your aid! It was an honor to fight at your side.
Templar: That was Captain Haile of Westmarch. He’s won hundreds of lost causes all over the world. I heard the king had to threaten him with treason just to get him to return home for a promotion.
Continue heading north for the first Catapult. Talk to Sergeant Burroughs.
Sergeant Burroughs: You must be the one that lit the signal fires! Help me free the recruits so they can raise this catapult! Over here!
Stay there until Demon Troopers and Demonic Hellflyers start attacking. Kill them.
OBJECTIVES UPDATE
Waiting for Reinforcements
- Protect the recruits as they raise the catapult
Sergeant Burroughs: Many men were slaughtered while we held the upper ramparts.
Necromancer: That is the way of war.
Templar: I know, but I wonder… were they waiting for reinforcements that never came?
EVENT COMPLETE
Sergeant Burroughs: With the fires lit and the catapults firing on the battlefield, Bastion’s Keep just might hold. You’ve given us hope. Thank you.
Keep moving forward until you find Lieutenant Lavail with a quest.
Lieutenant Lavail: Scouts report that more of those wretched demon hell bearers will be here any moment! The soldiers need to be protected. The platform will rise more quickly if we don’t lose men!
OBJECTIVES UPDATE
Protect and Serve
- Protect the soldiers raising the catapult
A Demonic Hell Bearer vomits out Demon Troopers. Kill them, and the Bearer worm. Don’t allow the demons to kill any of the men raising the catapult.
Another Demonic Hell Bearer climbs the wall to the north, around the corner.
A third and fourth Demonic Hell Bearer climb the wall at the corner.
EVENT COMPLETED
Templar: Done!
Lieutenant Lavail: Thanks to your help, we can finally get these catapults firing on the demons on the battlefield. The soldiers out there have a chance now.
INFERNAL MACHINE
Note: Downstairs, in Torment mode, you might find the Tormentor of the Damned: Xah’rith the Keywarden of Terror — who drops the Infernal Machine of Terror, which helps you acquire a Hellfire Amulet’s ingredient.
Talk to Lieutenant Clyfton to start the last quest to raise Catapult #3.
Necromancer: You’re here alone?
Lieutenant Clyfton: Of course I’m bloody well alone! Everyone else has gone and died, but I’ll be damned if I’ll leave my post!
OBJECTIVES UPDATE
Manual Override
- Use the Wich to raise the catapult
Note: To complete this event, you must kill incoming demons, then click the winch every 5 seconds when it becomes clickable. Rinse and repeat until the event concludes.
If you forget to click, Clyfton will complain angrily, and alert you.
Lieutenant Clifton: I… can’t… believe you’re… making me… do this… on my own!
EVENT COMPLETE
Lieutenant Clifton: Done! I… uh… promised Captain Haile I’d watch my temper. Do me a favor and don’t mention that I shouted at you a little, all right?
Pop the Town Portal (T).
OBJECTIVES UPDATE
- Catapults raised in Stonefort (3/3) – COMPLETE
- Return to the Bastion’s Keep Stronghold
Finally, I have met soldiers who are eager to fight back! Together we have raised the catapults, and driven Azmodan’s army from the keep walls. It will be interesting to see how this demon lord reacts to setbacks…
LOCATION: BASTION’S KEEP STRONGHOLD
Vision of Azmodan: While you tinkered with your paltry catapults, my demons breached the depths of your keep. Once they’ve claimed the Black Soulstone for me, your entire world will burn.
TOWNSFOLK DIALOGUES: BASTION’S KEEP STRONGHOLD
Soldier: The demons are in the keep! They’re coming up from the depths! To arms! To arms! |
Rondal: I would ask if you’re all right, but I know better. |
Martha: That was hardly an ambush, anyway. Do you remember when the barbarians tried the same thing thirty years ago? |
Rondal: Hah! They tried to steal you away, didn’t they? I was frantic untill they brought you back two hours later with an apology. |
Martha: I simply reasoned with him. Garma still sends me a bundle of hides sometimes, you know. He was the nicest kidnapper I ever met. |
TERROR |
Former Mayor Holus: You see? They can kill any of us at any time! I won’t wait a second longer. I am leaving now! |
Necromancer: Anything can kill you at any time. Just be aware of that. |
A DISGUSTING DEMON | ||
Myriam | There is a disgusting, slobbering, fat oozing demon in your future. But there is always time for romance. You really should find someone.
Necromancer | Why do you speak so?
Myriam | Trust me, you’ll appreciate having a loved one to come home to when you’re done saving the world. |
MORE MEMORIES | ||
Necromancer | Tell me of your past adventures.
Covetous Shen | I once traveled with a Vecin wagon tribe for six months. It was one of the happiest times of my life! Until, of course, that night I drank too much of that delicious flaming cider. heheh. I woke up in a beautiful married woman’s bed with my trousers on my head so that I wouldn’t lose them, of course. Naturally, her husband came in just then. I had to leave in a hurry, of course, but I followed that wagon train for three more months, sneaking into her wagon whenever her husband finally fell asleep. |
WISHES |
Villager: I wish my husband had lived long enough to see you fighting for our family. |
Necromancer: Do not waste your wishes on the dead. They have no need of them. |
Boy: Can we go fight with you? |
Girl: Leave her alone! Can’t you see she’s busy? |
Small Boy: I thought we were all going to die. |
Necromancer: Some die, others live. And I already know that you will survive. |
Soldier: Nikola, are you all right? |
Nikola: Yes. The demons never got near me. How do you face those things? |
Soldier: Because I do it for you. They terrify me. |
INJURED SOLDIERS |
Someone, talk to me! |
Does it look bad? |
Where is my family? Why won’t anyone tell me where my family is? |
Don’t take my leg. Please don’t take my leg. |
Tell Captain Haile I’m sorry. |
Soldier: Akarat’s mercy! If our champion hadn’t come back, we’d all be dead! How did they get in? |
Soldier 2: Unholy bloody magic. You’d think all the Zakarum emblems etched between the stones would have kept them out. |
Villager: My children aren’t afraid like the others. They know we have to be strong, that brave warriors like you have to hold this place. I’m so proud of them. |
Enchantress: Will you study with me? |
Scoundrel: Thieves have their own studies. |
Enchantress: Surely you jest. |
Scoundrel: Perhaps the world is not as simple as it seems from up there. |
Enchantress: Up where? |
Scoundrel: Your ivory tower. |
TOWNSFOLK DIALOGUES: THE ARMORY
HOPES | ||
Leah | I’m glad this is almost done. I don’t… I don’t think I have much time left.
Necromancer | I would know if your time was near. It is not. Think of your future… the inn you want to build.
Leah | No, you were right. There is no safe place for anyone. Look around us. If this keep can’t protect us, what chance would a silly little inn have? |
DREAMS | ||
Necromancer | Take comfort in the refuge of your mind. So long as your thoughts are your own, you have a defense against fear.
Leah | The demonic rage is building up again. But I can do this. I know I can. Thank you. |
SUFFERING | ||
Necromancer | Leah’s suffering grows with each passing moment.
Adria | Everyone suffers. But to do so for a cause greater than oneself — that is the mark of a true hero. My daughter is everything I hoped she would be. |
