Runes are mainly used to create runewords in socketed gray items. This list of runes are taken from screenshots I took while playing with various classes. More will be added over the next months to keep updated.
Some of these runes drop from rare elites, unique elites, bosses, the Hellforge quest, normal monsters, and also by opening treasure chests, clicking corpses or spider eggs, and destroying jars.
IMPORTANT: You can have 1000% Magic Find in your character, but it won’t increase your chance to loot a Rune. Instead, your chances increase in high populated areas:
- Secret Cow Level
- Arcane Sanctuary (Specters — kill them when they are on ground so they drop runes. If you kill them while outside of the ground, they won’t drop anything)
- Lower Kurast
- The High Council in Travincal has special higher chance to drop runes (up to ZOD in Hell difficulty)
- Chaos Sanctuary
