After posting videos of the Diablo III: Rise of the Necromancer campaign mode (Act I-V), one of our subscribers (Gideondas) messaged me on Twitter to request video of the Necromancer’s NPC dialogue interactions with Zayl the Necromancer and Mehtan.

There aren’t much things to learn, but there are a few differences. Either way, some of these Necromancer NPC encounters are random generated, and some people might have missed them. So here you have a collection of these encounters.

Necromancer interactions with NPC Necromancers

Campaign Mode: Act V: The Witch, Overgrown Ruins

Location: Blood Marsh or Path of the Drowned

Difficulty: Torment I

Note: This is a very rare spawn. You might have to try several times on both locations.

ZAYL

Lorath Nahr: Zayl! I am glad you are well.

Celsa (Necromancer): I have heard tales of you, though we never met. It is an honor.

Zayl: I am Zayl, a necromancer who seeks to maintain the balance.

Humbart Wessel: Plus, he's a Horadrim!

Zayl: That's my friend Humbart. He's a skull. Please ignore him.

Lorath Nahr: Zayl helped Tyrael steal the Black Soulstone from Heaven!

Zayl: I did. But I was not in the tomb when Malthael struck.

Humbart Wessel: If he was, Zayl would have shown that angel what it means to cross a necromancer!

Zayl: That's enough, Humbart.

THE BOG

Celsa (Necromancer): Why have you come here?

Zayl: This place has fallen to deep imbalance. Something is very wrong here, and I wish to heal the land.

Celsa (Necromancer): There is a witch, Adria, who is responsible. I will bring her evil to an end.

Humbart Wessel: Well that's taken care of! Let's go get a drink.

Zayl: Even after she is slain, equillibrium will not immediately be restored. It will take time.

Humbart Wessel: Always so serious.

REFERENCE: What Lorath said about Zayl helping Tyrael steal the Black Soulstone from the High Heavens is a reference to the events in the novel Diablo: The Order by Nate Kenyon.

Campaign Mode: Act II: The Road to Alcarnus, Lieutenant Vachem

Location: Stinging Winds

Difficulty: Torment I

Note: Take the waypoint to Black Canyon Mines. Then head north toward the Stinging Winds. Search for Mehtan. This is a random generated spawn. He might not be there. Try again.

THE RESTLESS SANDS

Help Mehtan the Necromancer banish the trapped spirits.

Celsa: Well met, Master Mehtan. What have you discovered here?

Mehtan: Powerful spirits haunt these ruins. I was not strong enough to defeat them, but I was able to trap them. I fear the coven that invades the region will try to use the spirits for their nefarious purposes. But if you dare, you can try to put them to rest. Activate the totems to release the spirits, and be prepared to fight.

Mehtan: Can you hear their angry voices? Still more remain.

Celsa: One more left.

Celsa: I have pacified the spirits. Master Mehtan will be pleased.

Mehtan: The voices fade. The spirits in this place are calm. I can begin the work of freeing them.

Mehtan: The howling of the spirits lessens. You have put them to rest. Wait... listen... The Coven!

Mehtan: We have denied the Coven, but I fear they will find other, darker powers to exploit. Thank you, and go with the blessings of Rathma.

Campaign Mode: Act V: Souls of the Dead, Gideon's Row

Location: Westmarch Commons (inside Hall of Dark Arts)

Difficulty: Torment I

Note: Take the waypoint or walk to the north of the base camp to enter the Westmarch Commons. Enter the Hall of Dark Arts. This is a rare spawn building in Westmarch Commons. You might have to restart a few times until it spawns.

NECROMANCER'S CHOICE

Help Mehtan the Necromancer defeat the reapers in the Hall of Dark Arts.

Celsa: It is good to see you, Master Mehtan. What have you found?

Mehtan: Death's minions threaten to overwhelm the living, so they must be culled. This beacon will draw many of Death's soldiers here to their demise. I was about to activate it.

Celsa: I would be honored to help.

Mehtan: It has been good fighting by your side, but I have much work left to do. Perhaps we shall meet again someday.

Campaign Mode: Act V

Location: Pandemonium Fortress Level 1

Difficulty: Torment I

DIRE HOUR

Master Necromancer Ordan: At last, I have found you.

Celsa: Master? Why are you here?

Master Necromancer Ordan: We are reunited at our most dire hour. Many of our priests have fallen.

Celsa: Even you, master.

Master Necromancer Ordan: It is as it should be. I have come to aid you in defeating Malthael. You must wield a power beyond what you have ever dreamed possible. But first, you need to free us from our prison deeper in the fortress.

Celsa: I swear it will be done.

MALTHAEL

Master Necromancer Ordan: This angel commands a power beyond his understanding.

Celsa: Surely he possessed great knowledge as the Archangel of Wisdom?

Master Necromancer Ordan: Yes, but he sees virtue only in the light, not the Balance. Without some measure of harmony between both these forces, we are all lost. The victory he imagines for himself could never come to pass.

THE PAST

Master Necromancer Ordan: The truth is that you were not finished with your training when you left us. But I knew that if you'd stayed, you would have died in Malthael's attack.

Celsa: You said many perished. Why was I spared?

Master Necromancer Ordan: Your life serves the Balance, as it always has, but perhaps you see it more clearly now. There is still a great deal you must do before your journey ends.

NOTE: After killing Seraziel in Pandemonium Fortress Level 2...

THE POWER OF DEATH

Celsa: I see now! This is what you spoke of... I feel as though I am on the edge between life and death, and both will bend at my command.

Master Necromancer Ordan: You are closer to the Cycle than any of us have ever been. Use this power to bring us peace.

Celsa: You have given me a great gift, master.

Master Necromancer Ordan: I give you a challenge. Do not fail.

THE GREAT CYCLE OF BEING

Master Necromancer Ordan: We studied the Cycle for years, but we did not see the extent of this disaster. There were dark portents after the Worldstone shattered. The masters spent years trying to decipher them. It was clear that something was coming.

Celsa: If only we had better prepared.

Master Necromancer Ordan: My apprentice. If we had not made these preparations, you would not be standing before me now.

CONTINGENCIES

Celsa: What if I had been defeated, and could not reach you?

Master Necromancer Ordan: There are many spirits here... great and small from across the lands. I have instructed them on how to aid their allies, much as I have aided you.

Celsa: Of course. You consider everything.

Master Necromancer Ordan: It is a trait I would like to see in my apprentices as well.

THE DEATHSPEAKER

Celsa: When this is over, I shall return to the necropolis. Deathspeaker Jurdann will know of your actions.

Master Necromancer Ordan: That is impossible. He was one of the fallen.

Celsa: Then who leads our numbers?

Master Necromancer Ordan: You must show them the way. Ensure that our traditions survive.
