Streamers visited the Xbox Seattle office recently to play Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred. During Wudijo’s stream you can see that enemies suddenly stopped attacking or following Wudijo past a blue line emanating weird magic hues. In Raxxanterax’s stream he encountered the same spot and couldn’t understand what its purpose was. At least unless you know your lore and connect the dots.

The Gidbinn in Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred

The Gidbinn is still protecting the Kurast Docks. For those who haven’t played Diablo II, players visit the Kurast Docks (located in Nahantu) as the zone’s quest hub and local town.

THE GIDBINN BLADE OF THE OLD RELIGION

In Diablo II, after the quest titled The Golden Bird is completed, the player unlocks the second quest. You talk to Hratli to accept the quest The Old Religion.

In order to protect the remaining survivors of Kurast, sheltered at the docks, Hralti sends the player to retrieve the ancient Gidbinn blade of the Skatsimi religion from the Flayer Jungle.

Hralti, then, places the blade on an altar and it projects a protective shield that surrounds the Kurast Docks.

To this day, the Gidbinn blade still protects Kurast Docks in Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred. However, those who could renew the blade’s protection in Diablo II, are no longer in Kurast Docks or alive.

The blade’s power flickers every now and then. A nearby NPC comments the blade’s power is dying.

Ormus is said to be alive and very old. However, he is more open-minded nowadays to other outlanders’ religions or beliefs. He might be found somewhere in Nahantu as an NPC, but no longer in the Kurast Docks.

Maybe he might know how to restore the Gidbinn blade? Time will tell.

The developers pointed out they wanted to include nods to the Diablo II lore You might find things scattered throughout Nahantu that will hint or blatantly reveal themselves to those who are versed in the Diablo lore.

GATE OF THE NECROPOLIS

If you have watched the streamers complete The Festering Dark stronghold, you might have noticed the stronghold is revealed to be the Necropolis. You will see Runes of Trag’oul that holds a lantern that helps you illuminate the area.

The Necropolis might be accessible at some point in the game. The demo had many things disabled to prevent campaign spoilers.

The Necropolis is the ancient hall of the Priests of Rathma to learn and teach new necromancers. A haven to reside in, as well. After the events of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls, few necromancers remain and Mira hopes some of them return to the Necropolis in the future.

I say the Necropolis might be accessible at some point because you can peek behind the gate that there is a long hallway with pyre cauldrons.
