Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset during the Snapdragon Tech Summit 2021 held yesterday in Hawaii. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is the next chipset following the Snapdragon 888 and 888 Plus. Qualcomm decided to rename the chipsets going forward, and these will adopt the new sequence: Gen 2, Gen 3 and so on.

The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset makes a giant leap for gaming mobile devices introducing updatable GPU Drivers, and many other features:

  • 4nm process technology

Phones will come with an Adreno Control Panel where you can customize several settings:

  • FPS Cap: 30, 45, 60, 90, 120
  • Resolution: 720p, 1080p, 2K, 4K
  • Anisotropic Filtering (AF): 1X, 2X, 4X, 8X, 16X
  • MSAA 1X / 4X / 16X settings
  • Texture Filtering Quality: High Speed / Balanced / High Quality
  • GFX Driver Parameter Optimization
  • Power Modes: Default, Save Power, Balanced, High Quality, Custom Setup
  • Download Updated GPU Driver
  • More Settings tab: unknown

The Qualcomm Adreno GPU in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset gets a 30% Boost in graphic rendering capabilities compared to its predecessor Snapdragon 888; 25% Power savings improvements; and 60% faster speeds with Vulkan Graphics drivers.
