The Art of Diablo

A new listing in Amazon revealed plans to launch The Art of Diablo on October 15, 2019. There aren’t further details other than the new listing and the ISBN data. You can pre-order it now for $45.00.

Description: For more than 20 years, the artists behind Diablo have conjured new visions of the High Heavens and the Burning Hells, built nightmarish corridors filled with monsters and demons, and unleashed swarms of malevolent creatures upon players worldwide. The Art of Diablo plunges into the concept, design, and environmental art that has defined the world of Sanctuary and the Eternal Conflict at the core of the Diablo series. SPECULATION

A few days ago, I posted an article based on job openings moved to the “Diablo” category in the Blizzard Careers webpage concerning a unannounced project.

It is unknown if this “The Art of Diablo” is in relation to:

  • Diablo Immortal
  • Diablo III
  • New Diablo title

Back in 2012, Blizzard published The Art of Diablo III via the Collector’s Edition, and The Art of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls in 2014.

At first look, it would seem the one coming in October 2019 is a reprint, but it is not described as such, and the title is a flat “The Art of Diablo” with no “III.”

This leads me to think that the title is a placeholder for something that hasn’t been announced yet.

It could have been titled “The Art of Diablo Immortal” for example. Why not? We know that the mobile game is going into Beta at some point in 2019 because (as of November 2, 2018) fans can register for Beta testing at the DiabloImmortal.com website. There was no Release Date provided other than “When it is done.” Why not name this book the same way the mobile game is titled? A game that we already know about (read the BlizzCon 2018 panel transcripts).

Again, past Art books were namesakes of the video games launched:

  • The Art of Diablo III
  • The Art of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls

Why is this one only: The Art of Diablo … unless the title can’t be revealed yet?

Considering this book’s release date (October 15), GamesCom 2019 (August 21-24) might be a candidate for a game, DLC pack, or expansion announcement. Hopefully, our correspondent Handclaw will be there.

This is speculation at this point. I’ll update as soon as new details, front cover, or interior images come up about The Art of Diablo. Same for any game content reveals at PAX East or GamesCom.
