Diablo III Console Job Positions

Blizzard Entertainment is looking for passionate game developers to fill positions in the Diablo III Team. The good news: Blizzard is considering the idea of bringing Diablo III to Game Consoles.

There is a few things fans need to understand:

1. Bashiok said: “We have no intention to allow the console interpretation to delay the release of Diablo III”.

2. There is no official announcement of Diablo III for Consoles.

My opinion:

Having those two facts in mind, the likely scenario here is the Diablo III PC/Mac goes on sale much earlier than the Console version, rather than a simultaneous release.

Blizzard doesn’t want to delay the game release, thus this new batch of developers has the task of porting the game at their own pace for consoles.

However, Bashiok also said this is not an official announcement of a Diablo III console version, thus don’t hold your breath. There may be several factors that might cause the team to decide to cancel the console version. It will require a lot of QA testing, thus the smart thing to do would be to release Diablo III for PC/Mac, and when the Console version is ready and well-tested release that at a later time. I’d call it a project experiment — a very public experiment.

Nevertheless, even if it is not officially announced, this news will make many console owners go into hype-mode.

Now, the interesting part. Starcraft: Ghost was originally developed for the PS2, Nintendo GameCube and Xbox Classic. Suddenly, SONY came up with the PS3 and Microsoft the Xbox 360. Within two weeks of the XNA announcement, Blizzard Entertainment postponed the FPS game to explore these new generation of consoles.

For that matter, the question here would be if players might be able to hack and slash their way through Sanctuary with Xbox 360 Kinect and PS3 Move — the new kids on the block.

Those of our visitors interested in applying for the Diablo III console team should check out the following job openings.

Blizzard Quote:

Bashiok: As some of you may have seen over on the Diablo III home page, we’re currently exploring a Diablo-related concept for consoles. As we’ve said in the past, with proper care the gameplay could suit the console platform, and we’re interested in seeing what talent out there might be interested in contributing to such a project.

To further reiterate what’s posted on the home page: this is not an announcement of a console title. We are first and foremost developing Diablo III for Windows and Mac PCs, and we have no intention of allowing a console interpretation to delay or otherwise affect the release of the game. As always feel free to discuss this topic here, but please note that we don’t have any further details to share at this time.

If you or someone you know would be interested in joining the Diablo team, then head over to the job posts to check out the requirements and submit an application. — source

I don’t view this as a good thing, but neither do I think its nearly as bad as most of the web seems to think.

I do think that there is absolutely no chance in hell, heaven or sanctuary that it will use the Move and Kinect; they aren’t really analogous to the 360 and PS3, and wouldn’t fit the Diablo playstyle – especially not Kinect. I do think that if this sadly does go through they will have a positive effect on console D3 regardless. They have essentially expanded the lifetime of the 360 and the PS3, which is good for developers like Blizzard who have drawn out development cycles, which new systems often disrupt.
