Diablo III Bestiary: The Fallen Ones

Bashiok hinted recently a Bestiary Update was nearby, and it was true.  The Fallen Ones have finally taken the spotlight.  The Fallen Ones have a master … Azmodan the Lord of Sin, one of the Lesser of the Seven Great Evils of the Burning Hells. There are five types of Fallen Ones:

  • Imps – These are the commonest of the fallen family of demons. They are the stereotypical fallen ones in look and behavior: small, red, swarming, bloodthirsty, and cowardly.
  • Shaman – Fallen shaman priests lead camps of fallen. I have also heard it rumored that they possess the ability to raise imps from the dead!
  • Lunatic – These enraged, oversized fallen creatures are bloated seemingly to the point of bursting, an impression buttressed by the fact that these insane demons rush their intended victims and then stab themselves until they explode. A more fitting name could not be found for these maniacal beings.
  • Overseer – The fallen overseer drives his smaller impish charges into a frenzy with his ape-like leaping and growling. An overseer among a group of fallen is a dangerous thing, as the cowardice that usually characterizes them is overwhelmed by fear of their much larger brethren.
  • Hounds – These slobbering abominations are commonly found among groups of the fallen and are utilized as guard animals, beasts of burden, or even food by their demonic masters. These beasts are loyal to a fault, regardless of the abuse heaped upon them.

Bashiok: The Diablo III bestiary has been updated with a demon family you may recognize – The Fallen Ones!

“When unleashed upon our realm by their master, Azmodan, these impish terrors display a tendency to swarm like flesh-hungry locusts, and they have been known to tear apart a sleeping village in minutes. Small of stature and simian in appearance, these creatures possess surprising strength and unnatural agility. Other than feasting on human flesh, the only act that gives these unspeakable horrors pleasure is breeding; hence the tendency to encounter them in large packs.”

“He will report to our vice president of online technologies and work closely with the executive team to help fine-tune the next version of Battle.net, currently in development,” Blizzard’s Bob Colayco said.

Now this is an interesting thought.  Someone with experience in Xbox Live Arcade and PopCap games now working on Battle.net 2.0 … hmm … Remeber GDC 2009? Rob Pardo criticized consoles for their lack of keyboard support?

Sideshow Diablo III Overthrown Nearing Final Stages

I had a few words with Sideshow Collectibles President and CEO Greg Anzalone and Production Manager Brant Bridges tonight and there are good news for those hardcore Diablo III fans that are into collectibles.  The Diablo III OVERTHROWN diorama is nearing its final stages. We will show you the photos once the painted version is ready.  New products based on the Blizzard games are not out of the question, but nothing as soon as we wish.

Below is an image of the unpainted Diablo III diorama.

What’s the Sideshow Collectibles background?

Greg: Sideshow was born from the belief that we could create more interesting, more detailed, more highly collectible limited edition figures, for a global audience.  Our belief has been proven true, but we continue to be surprised by the global appeal of our products.

Medievaldragon: Are there plans to introduce more dioramas based on the Starcraft II, Diablo III and World of Warcraft licenses?

Brant: Yes, we are hoping to do more Blizzard products.  Nothing in the immediate future, but we do have some ambitions.

Medievaldragon: What is the status on the Diablo III OVERTHROWN diorama (Barbarian) The final painted version hasn’t been unveiled yet.

Brant: You’ll see screenshots of the painted OVERTHROWN diorama soon. It’s KILLER.

Medievaldragon: Are you eventually developing a polystone diorama for each of the five Diablo III classes?  i.e. the Witch Doctor and the Wizard?

Brant: It’s possible, but not definite.

Medievaldragon: How was that first approach between Sideshow and Blizzard Entertainment?  The first product was the exclusive Tychus Findlay Terran Marine diorama—already painted by the time Blizzard officially announced StarCraft II, which means you were already on this at least a year earlier.

Greg: Our guys are Blizzard fans and play WoW more than they should because they’re dragging their sorry asses to work in the morning with a videogame hangover.  So it was only natural that we explore other potential products.
